Vijay Antony’s daughter, Meera passed away due to suicide at their Chennai home on Tuesday. She was just 16 years old.
Actor and music director Vijay Antony’s daughter allegedly took her own life on Tuesday. Reports suggest she was found dead at their Chennai residence. The confirmation of her demise was made by film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan. Meera was reportedly 16 years old.
Manobala Vijayabalan tweeted about the tragic news, saying, “Breaking: Actor and music director Vijay Antony’s daughter Meera took her own life at home this morning. Shocking! Rest in peace, Meera.” Allegedly, Meera’s apparent suicide will be investigated by the actor’s family and Meera’s school friends.
Reacting to a past tweet from Meera’s mother, film business analyst Ramesh Bala also tweeted, “In March this year, Mrs. Fatima Vijay Antony was so proud that her daughter Meera Vijay Antony became the Cultural Secretary of the school students’ union. We all congratulated her on Twitter. She was the world for her parents. Unimaginable pain.”
Meera attended a private school in Chennai. According to an India Today report, she was taken to a private hospital in Chennai, where doctors pronounced her dead after conducting an examination. She was reportedly under stress and seeking treatment for it.
Vijay Antony gained notoriety earlier this year when, following an accident on the set of his Tamil directorial debut “Pichaikkaran 2” in Malaysia, he needed surgery for injuries to his jaw and nose.
Vijay Antony is an Indian music composer, playback singer, actor, film editor, lyricist, audio engineer, and film producer who primarily works in Tamil cinema. He began his career as an composing music . He became the first Indian music director to win a Cannes Golden Lion for his song in the Nakkamukka advertisement film in 2009. Vijay Antony was born in Nagarcoil, Kanyakumari district. When he entered the Tamil industry, he initially used the stage name Agni but later changed it. His son’s name is Vijay, added in front of Antony by S. A. Chandrasekhar, who believed that Agni was not a lucky name, so he decided to name him Vijay Antony.

Vijay Antony began his acting career with the crime thriller “Naan,” where he played the lead role. The standalone sequel to the film, titled “Salim,” was an action thriller and his next venture as an actor and music director. Both films were sleeper hits. In 2015, he acted in the romantic comedy “India Pakistan” but didn’t compose the music. In 2016, he acted alongside director Sasi in the action thriller “Pichaikkaran.”

Vijay Antony is married to Fatima Vijay Antony, and they have two daughters. Their elder daughter passed away on September 19, 2023, at the age of 16 in Chennai. When Antony was just 7 years old, he lost his father. He comes from a distinguished lineage, being a great-grandson of Samuel Vedanayagam Pillai, a former author and writer.
Vedanayagam was a Tamil poet, novelist, and social worker, known for his authorship of “Prathapa Mudaliar Charithram,” recognized as the first modern Tamil novel. He is celebrated in his portrayal of women’s emancipation and education.
Vijay Antony started his career as a sound engineer and later transitioned into a music composer. After completing his college education, he established an audio studio called Audio Infotainment and worked there as a sound engineer.
He composed a few jingles for advertisements and also created some background scores for television shows. It was during this time that he got in touch with Oscar Ravichandran for composing music for his film project. However, “Sukran,” the first film for which Vijay had composed music, was released earlier.
